Berkeley Homes choose Haddonstone for stunning Wimbledon Hill Park development

The client

Berkeley Homes builds beautiful, successful places, blending homes, parks and public realm with great facilities to create fantastic communities where people love to live. They work together with trusted partners to tackle the shortage of good quality homes and make a lasting contribution to the landscape and to the communities they help create.

The brief

Haddonstone were approached by Berkeley Homes to supply high quality architectural stonework for Phase 2 of the Wimbledon Hill Park development.

Set in one of South West London’s most desirable locations, Wimbledon Hill Park is an exquisitely crafted development incorporating three luxury developments, Dukes Gardens, Wellington Row and Cedar Place.  Each development is a contemporary interpretation of original Victorian designs.

Forming the prestigious centerpiece of the development is Wellington Row, the spectacular conversion of the former Atkinson Morley Hospital, tastefully restored as custom-made luxury apartments.  Dukes Gardens and Cedar Place form the surrounding residences.

Part of the planning conditions for the project was that the entrance portico and parapet balustrade were re-instated, to bring the Atkinson Morley Hospital building back to its former glory.  Using old photographs supplied by the architect, Haddonstone were able to select suitable components from our standard range as well as design custom-made pieces to reflect these important features.

The solution

Throughout the design, manufacture and build process our team worked closely with the design engineers at Berkeley Homes to refine all the necessary technical details and to ensure the quality of each cast stone element was produced to the highest specification.  This was particularly important when manufacturing the heads and chimney caps for the project.  We supplied the stonework for these components directly to Berkerley Homes’ manufacturer so that it could be incorporated off site before the completed assemblies were delivered and installed on site.

We utilised standard and custom-made architectural designs from our extensive range to produce the stonework for the project and chose our TecStone wet cast material in Bath color for each component.  These included window surrounds incorporating heads, sills and surrounds throughout the design of each of the three developments.  Further details including string courses and balustrading were added to many of the properties.

At cedar Place, a stunning portico creates a grand entrance to the main residence and incorporates upper and lower cornice, an architrave, balustrading and classical columns.

Both Dukes Gardens and wellington Row incorporate Haddonstone heads and sills, string courses, pier caps, plinths and bases.

The result

An initial order of stone was supplied for the show home in September 2014 and the last stone order was delivered to Wimbledon Hill Park in December 2016.

The Wimbledon Hill Park development was completed in 2017 with prices ranging between £1,350,000 – £2,250,000.

In 2018 the development were recognised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s National Site Awards and won the Silver Considerate Constructors award.
