Ramside Hall Hotel, County Durham

The Client

Ramside Hall Hotel is a luxury, traditional four-star hotel located on the outskirts of County Durham.  Set in 350 acres of beautiful private grounds including two 18-hole championship golf courses, the hotel boasts 127 luxurious bedrooms and suites.

As Durham’s only Silver Awarded AA Rated spa hotel, Ramside Hall Hotel is Cumbria’s most desirable wedding venue.  Offering an extensive range of function suites for any special occasion, the hotel caters for ceremonies and receptions of all sizes.

Ramside Hall Hotel commissioned Haddonstone to help refurbish their existing Ballroom in 2018.  The brief was to help the hotel transform their current facilities into the highest rated four-star hotel in County Durham.  The newly refurbished £400,000 Ballroom was designed to help the hotel lead the way in catering for beautiful weddings, conferences and events.

This was a challenging project because of the short turnaround time to completion.  The contractor took possession of the site at the start of January and the project needed to be completed a few months later by the end of March.  This was to enable the first wedding to take place at the venue at the beginning of April.  The construction of the Ballroom not only completed in record time, enabling the wedding to take place, but the project took place during the harshest winter on record.

The Solution

Haddonstone’s experienced Building and Construction team worked closely with the contractor to design and supply the highest-quality cast stone components for this very special venue.  This included all of the walling stone and half columns as well as the distinctive arches that crown the windows and doors.  We also supplied copings for the steps and outside walkway.

The special parapet panels were adapted especially for this project and were based on the swagged design of our distinctive Adam Trough.  In order to integrate this detailing into the parapet components, our skilled factory studio team created a bespoke mould that replicated the design before casting.

Haddonstone’s fine Ivory Limestone colour was chosen for all the cast stone components, which were produced using our Haddonstone semi-dry cast limestone material.

The refurbished Ballroom now boasts a stunning new entrance and private reception area.  It can accommodate up to 250 guests for evening receptions, and is now voted the most attractive traditional wedding venue in the North East.
