Haddonstone has again committed its support to nurturing young local talent by launching a new partnership with the University of Northampton.
The prestigious Northamptonshire stone manufacturer is providing a group of BSc (Hons) Product Design students with the opportunity to create new designs that could eventually be added to Haddonstone’s commercial range of architectural, landscaping and garden products.
As part of a live client project, 17 second year students will be tasked with individually developing new ideas to form part of a new street furniture range. The designs will be produced using Haddonstone’s unique cast stone materials.
The project will be assessed as part of the students’ degree programme and Haddonstone will award prizes to the best three design concepts.
The new partnership launched today at Haddonstone’s manufacturing facility, where the students were able to tour the facilities, talk to staff and to learn about the company’s production methods. The students also visited Haddonstone’s beautiful Show Gardens, where they were able to see a diverse range of finished Haddonstone designs.
An interim presentation of the designs will take place in November, followed by a final presentation by the students in January 2020.
Friedemann Schaber, Senior Lecturer Product Design, University of Northampton said:
“The students benefit from a live client experience, furthering their creative and design management skills, responding to deadlines and deliverables set by the company partner. In particular, this project supports a kinaesthetic learning approach, a teaching style in which learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity and interrogating the casting process with the design of patterns and multiple part moulds”.
David Barrow, Managing Director, Haddonstone said:
“Nurturing local talent is very important to our company and we are delighted to offer this group of University of Northampton students with the opportunity to design new product ideas for Haddonstone’s range of street furniture. We are very much looking forward to seeing the students’ ideas and to hopefully being able to incorporate the winning design into our product range”.
