6 Of Our Favourite Cast Stone Projects

Over the past 50 years, our team has partnered with thousands clients across the UK and worldwide.

They have helped clients to complete a wide range of impressive residential and commercial projects.  From new builds, to renovation and restoration projects, our team continually rises to every unique challenge.

Here we showcase some of our favourite project case studies from over the past few years and highlight just how versatile cast stone can be.

  • Restored Griffin

We reunited a lonely Griffin with his other half

We were approached to replace one of their two highly decorative Griffin entrance pier finials, following an unfortunate accident.

This was an interesting project for our team and it took approximately three months from start to finish.

It was vitally important that our team could accurately replicate the surviving finial to ensure that both the replacement and the original Griffins perfectly matched.

Before commencing work on producing the replacement Griffin, our team meticulously prepared the original finial.  This involved removing layers of moss, dirt and lichen that had built up on the stone over the years.  Once clean, this enabled the team to replicate the original Griffin’s intricate design.

The team also used salvaged pieces of stone from the damaged Griffin, to profile the replacement finial.  They also used pieces of the original Griffin to colour match the cast stone mix for the replacement.

So how did we bring the two Griffins back together?

  • Reed's School

We helped to complete a building fit for the next generation of scientists

Our team was commissioned to produce a number of architectural components for Reed’s School, Surrey, as part of a large extension to the science block in the heart of the school campus.

We produced a variety of components including two-storey window surrounds, panels and parapet copings.

Whilst the project sounds simple in its design, it was in fact quite complicated to produce the architectural components to the exact specification required.  This was because a 75mm lightweight block was installed behind the Haddonstone components.  This meant that the fixing details needed to be placed in exactly the precise locations in order for both to line up correctly, as per the architect’s instructions.

Our highly experienced and competent team rose to the challenge, producing the cast stonework on-time and to the exact specifications.

  • Bespoke Buckinghamshire Residential Project

We produced almost entirely bespoke stonework for this award-winning residence

Haddonstone was commissioned to produce a large volume of completely bespoke stonework for this award-winning South Buckinghamshire property.

As an almost entirely bespoke commission, there were many tricky elements to this project such as the arched curved heads and the loggia, which created some structural and design challenges.

Our highly experienced and skilled studio team met these challenges and were able to execute the design and production of some of these more tricky elements.

This beautiful build was awarded the Best Luxury Development Project 2020 accolade by BUILD Magazine.

    Hotel Monsieur George

Our decorative bespoke brackets were chosen to adorn a luxurious Parisian hotel

World-renowned luxury designer Anouska Hempel commissioned Haddonstone to supply 14 small and four large, intricate bespoke brackets for the refurbished Monsieur George Hotel and Spa, Paris.

The brackets were designed for the hotel’s interior hallways, main entrance and the exterior façade, and were to be illuminated from behind by warm uplights.

Meticulous detail was applied to create the models, which featured scrolls at the top and base, along with flower motifs, fan detailing and decorative beadwork along the centre.

Did we mention that this project is also award-winning?

It was formally recognised as the Best Cast Stone on a Small Project by the United Kingdom Cast Stone Association (UKCSA) “Excellence in the Use of Cast Stone” 30th Anniversary Awards, 2021.
