For more details, visit the RIBA website.
Cambridge Central Mosque opened in 2019 as the city’s first purpose-built mosque and is inspired by both Islamic and English religious traditions. As Europe’s first ‘eco-mosque’ and it places sustainability at the very heart of its design, and instilling an emphasis on using renewable energy, natural light and maintaining a very low carbon footprint.
Haddonstone was commissioned by leading London-based Marks Barfield Architects to supply bespoke stonework for this beautiful building.
Working closely with the architect, our team produced a variety of bespoke stonework for the project including the distinctive crenallations that form the parapet. In-keeping with the Muslim imperative to protect the environment, our team created bespoke bird nesting holes within some of the crenallations using our TecLite material in Bath colour.
Our team also produced the complementary bespoke window and door surrounds, using our TecStone material, again in Bath colour. The large bespoke octagonal window surrounds were designed to sit within the exterior walls, which are clad in tiles of the traditional Gault colour with castellated parapets symbolising the meeting of heaven and earth.
Finally, our team also produced the bespoke pier caps, balls and bases, and copings that form part of the main visitor entrance, and again used our TecStone material in a Bath colour finish.
Whether you’re working on a private residential or large commercial project, or if you are interested in home and garden products, our friendly and expert team are happy to discuss your requirements.
