- Bhaktivedanta Manor, Watford
Established in 1973 by His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Bhaktivedanta Manor is a Gaudiya Vaishnava temple that stands within 70 acres of landscaped grounds in Hertfordshire. The temple is situated within the grounds of a mock-Tudor country house that was donated to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1973 by former Beatle, George Harrison.
Owned by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bhaktivedanta Manor has recently undergone significant expansion. This has included building of Sri Krishna Haveli, the largest purpose-built facility in the history of the temple. Sri Krishna Haveli will serve as a cultural centre, education facility and an events space to meet the needs of the Hare Krishna community.
The client was keen that the project incorporated a wide range of building materials including stone, wood and glass. Haddonstone was approached by Vascroft Contractors to supply high-quality cast stone components for the Sri Krishna Haveli development.
Our team produced a variety of bespoke cast stone components including oak post kneelers in Portland colour using our TecStone material. The same material was selected to produce the terracotta copings and pier caps commissioned to create a smart entrance way to the temple.
The client also commissioned Haddonstone to create a series of intricate, bespoke cast stone facia panels for both the inside and outside of the temple. Keen to incorporate an Indian-influenced relief pattern onto the panels, the client outsourced the design to a specialist woodcrafter in India, who created a wooden board specifically for the project. Our team then created the bespoke mould and cast the facia panels in Portland colour using our glass fibre-reinforced TecLite material. This material was chosen because of its lightweight construction and its high strength to weight ratio, making it ideal for projects such as this.
The Sri Krishna Haveli development will celebrate its grand opening in early March 2020.
