It has been widely noted that much of the renaissance architecture that we see today takes its inspiration from classical origins, but it was Inigo Jones (1573-1652) who first brought classical architecture as a concept to Britain and ultimately America. A student of the great Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), Jones travelled to Italy before being appointed as Surveyor General of the King’s Works in 1615.
