A unique opportunity to buy weathered Haddonstone - without the need to bid at auction …
Weathered Haddonstone normally attracts a premium when sold at auction or by a specialist dealer. In August 2009, BBC TV’s “Trust me I’m a Dealer” showed Paul Martin purchasing two Haddonstone Gothic Urns & Bases for £2000 before selling them to a client for £2400. During the programme, the same designs were also seen being sold by other dealers at £1450 and £1350 – yet the Haddonstone retail price is just £610 for the pair!
In a recent auction at Sotheby’s, four charming 20th century stone planters went under the hammer for over £5,000. But there was a twist. The pieces were manufactured by Haddonstone around 15 years before and are still made by the company today, selling for the modest sum of £60 each.
This weathered look is attractive to auction buyers, who often prefer their pieces to be ‘aged’ and are consequently prepared to pay a significant premium. And this is not the first time this has happened. In 1989 four similar Plaited Baskets, made ten years previously, were sold for £1000. At the time they retailed at only £36.50 each.
Haddonstone’s Plaited Baskets are not the only designs proving to be good investments. In a sale at Diss auctioneers Gaze & Son, a pair of “well weathered” Gothic Urns with Bases, identified as Haddonstone products, sold for £1400. Available new for £265.00 each, this sale generated an impressive profit for the client.
Rather than customers having to bid at auction, Haddonstone is now able to offer a unique collection of exquisitely weathered designs at sensible prices on a first come, first served basis.
These weathered stone pieces can currently be viewed at Haddonstone's acclaimed show gardens, located in East Haddon, Northamptonshire or at Brixworth in Northamptonshire.
